The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer By: Michelle Hodkin Review

Short Review Summary:
Book recommendations for the win!

That's right I finally read it people!! I've had a ton of friends recommend this one to me and tell me that I would love it. Due to that, I bought the whole series back in August for my birthday. I'm glad I did buy the set, because I loved it!
#IFINALLYREADIT

I did a buddy read with one of my best friends for this one and we sure did have a lot of fun trying to guess what was going on. We called/texted each other a lot with our guesses lol! I had quite a few ideas about what was happening, but I was mostly wrong. Which makes me really happy. I love books like this that are mysterious and keep you guessing.
#WTFIsHappening?

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer may be one of the best books I've read so far this year. For one, Mara is an UNRELIABLE Narrator and a darn good one too! I literally can't trust anything this girl says, sees, or does. I really love that and I hope there will be more of that in books two and three. Also, I like Noah and Jamie's characters quite a bit. I wish there had been more of Jamie in this book though and Noah seems a little too perfect which is pretty unrealistic. I never got too irritated by it though so I still gave the book five stars.
#UnreliableNarratorAlert

UGH! Now I can't wait to read the next two books!! The writing is so smooth, addicting, and I'm pretty invested in the story now. I definitely feel like this is just the beginning of Mara'a story. There are still some questions that I have that weren't answered in this book. I desperately need more answers.
#NeedMoreAnswers

Okay I have to tell you all that the romance may bother some people. For example, there is a part where Noah grabs the menu from Mara and proceeds to order for her. Which is not sexy, am I right? I hate this in books, but it happens often enough in novels that I can overlook it as long as it isn't overly done in the book. It's not in this one, but I realize this is a HUGE pet peeve for some readers and there are a couple of small parts like that throughout the book.
#DearAuthorsThisIsNotSexy

Overall I LOVE The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and I can't believe I put it off for so long! I seriously had so many people tell me to read it for so long now. A big thanks to each one of you that told me I would love it, you were right. I feel like I'm the last person to read this series, but I'm hoping to read books two and three before October is over!
#LoveLoveLove

I recommend The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer for fans of YA paranormal romance books such as Fallen, Hush, Hush, and Obsidian. I also recommend this one for fans of books with unreliable narrators that keep you guessing.

The Many By: Nathan Field Mini Review

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a free ebook copy of The Many By: Nathan Field in exchange for an honest review.

Short Review Summary:
Excellent psychological thriller with a touch of horror.

The Many started off strong and I was immediately drawn into the story. I have to say that this thriller is not quite what I expected, but in a good way! There are a few surprises that made this one different from other thrillers and I definitely enjoyed that. One thing that surprised me is how dark The Many is! A few parts are pretty creepy and twisted. The book did lose a little bit of traction around the middle and it started to drag on. Luckily, this didn't last too long and it picked back up again. The ending is especially fast paced and intriguing. I wish the end had been explored even more, but hey I wouldn't say no to a sequel.
#AFewSuprisesAreAlwaysAppreciated

Overall The Many is an intoxicating thriller with twists and some excellent creepy parts. I would personally have to classify this one as thriller with a touch of horror due to some dark/violent parts. I really enjoyed this one, despite the short lull in the middle. I also love that I genuinely had no clue where the story was going to go. A psychological thriller with a fresh and unique take is always great in my opinion.
#CreepyTwistedDark

I recommend The Many for fans of False Memory (Dean Koontz), You (Caroline Kepnes), and American Horror Story.

Dorothy Must Die By: Danielle Paige Review

Dorothy Must Die is DAAAAAARK!! I was definitely not expecting this book to be so dark. Hell, I probably would have read it sooner if I had known. This book really does not hold back at all. There is one part that really shocked me. I loved that. :P This is a fantastic twist on The Wizard of Oz.
#DontHoldBack

At first I didn't really care for Amy. Okay, let's face it most people love Dorothy (not me, I think she's ALRIGHT), but you have to give Amy a chance. Once I got to see more of Amy's personality she really grew on me. She was a little annoying in the very beginning of the novel, but later you can see how spunky she is. Also, Amy is very flawed, which I like that a lot in a character. I did not like her pet rat though.
#Shivers

Dorothy Must Die is a very captivating story and it's written extremely well. The characters and world are so vivid and well developed. I also like that there are a few twists too. Even though there is one twist that was super obvious, I liked it anyway. I liked what it was so I didn't care about the predictability.
#CaptivatingStory

Overall I loved Dorothy Must Die!! Gah, it's just so darn entertaining!! I can't wait to read the rest of the series and see what happens to Amy.
#Moooooore

I recommend Dorothy Must Die to fans of dark books with spunky MC's.

The Butterfly Garden By: Dot Hutchison Review #DarkAndIntense

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing a free ebook copy of The Butterfly Garden By: Dot Hutchison in exchange for an honest review.

I devoured The Butterfly Garden in one sitting. I was captivated as soon as I started. This book is so damn dark, intense, and twisted! I LOVED it. Some of the plot did seem a bit far fetched, but it didn't bother me at all. Even though some things are unrealistic there are just as many things that are very realistic. For example, I like the exploration of all the girls and all of the things that they went through in the garden. There are a lot of details of everyday life that I appreciate the author adding into the book.
#ReadINONESITTING

I really did not expect The Butterfly Garden to be THIS good. I love a book that is extremely dark and I have to say that this one felt even darker than I'm used to. I think that is because the overall tone of the book is depressing. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I loved it, but I do understand that is not for everybody. This is definitely not a happy go lucky book.
#DarkAndIntense

Speaking of things not for everybody, the things that this group of butterfly girls went through is very intense. What I mean is this is the point where I insert a major rape trigger. I usually don't add trigger warnings in my reviews, but due to the overall depressing tone throughout most of the book I think it's necessary.  I'm not saying that everything in the book is depressing though. The way that all of the girls relied on and helped each other is really breathtaking. This is a stunning novel, even though it's so twisted. I really like Maya's character and how she was able to cope with things on her own and with the others.
#TwistedButStunning

Overall The Butterfly Garden is a FANTASTIC book. It's an extremely well written and it's a very powerful read. It is a bit of a rough read as well so like I mentioned before, it won't be for everyone. Also, I could see this as a movie or TV show for sure. Maybe an episode of the Hannibal TV show, if it hadn't been cancelled a while back!! I'm still crying over that one, but if you've seen the show then you understand what I mean.
#CanIGetAShowPlease

I recommend The Butterfly Garden for anyone who likes their thrillers dark and intense, but also breathtaking.

Teeth: The First Bite By: Chele Cooke Review

Thank you to Story Cartel for providing an ebook copy of Teeth: The First Bite By: Chele Cooke in exchange for an honest review!

I saw Teeth mentioned by Kristen on her blog Metaphors and Moonlight and I just had to read it too! Since I love vampire stories I wanted to give this novella a try, even though I'm not really a novella fan.
#VampiresForever

Teeth is a dark novella, this is not a story about romanticized emo vampires. I really like how the story started off. Right away it was bloody and that caught my attention. I couldn't wait to see what would happen. I love when a story grabs you right away like that! This may be a short read, but it's definitely interesting.
#WellThatCaughtMyAttention

Basically this story starts off about the turning and training of a new vampire named Thomas. I like Thomas okay, but I prefer Spencer and William's characters. That may be because they ended up more of a focal point than Thomas. Spencer is definitely the most developed character in the story, but I was expecting there to be more about Thomas. I feel like the story is missing some more background about Thomas here. I'm still feeling a little confused as to who this story is supposed to be about. Thomas? Spencer? Both? Neither?
#WaitIsThisStoryAboutThomasOrSpencer?

Overall Teeth: The First Bite is a dark and bloody novella. I love vampire stories and this is a pretty good one.  While I really enjoyed this one, I am not certain if I'll continue the series or not. Something was introduced at the very end of Teeth and I can't say I'm happy about it. Not that it's bad, just not where I want the story to go. I can't say more because I don't want to say any spoilers of course.
#NotSureILikeWhereThisIsGoing

I recommend Teeth to fans of True Blood, Dracula, and vampire novellas in general. I also recommend Teeth to anyone who has recently been turned into a vampire and would like to read a fictional account of someone else's change. The beginning of the story alone is worth giving this one a shot! It's going to stick with me, that's for sure.
