The Wicked Deep By: Shea Ernshaw ARC Mini Review

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a free ebook copy of The Wicked Deep By: Shea Ernshaw in exchange for an honest review.

I had a hard time getting into The Wicked Deep. The beginning is so slow, the characters are blah, and the atmosphere felt so forced. I decided to keep reading anyway because I was intrigued to find out what happened to Penny's dad, more about the witches, and what was going on with Bo. Things did get a bit better about halfway or so through the book. The story as a whole is entertaining and fun. However, it's way too predictable. I'm so torn on this book and I ended up feeling very in the middle about it. There is a lot I did like, but there are definitely a few issues. Overall The Wicked Deep was a fun read, but the issues I had kept me from really LOVING it.

Waiting on Wednesday-The Becoming of Noah Shaw By: Michelle Hodkin

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature/meme and the idea behind it is to share upcoming releases that we can't wait to get our hands on!

My pick this week:

Expected Publication Date: November 7, 2017
I love, love, LOVE the Mara Dyer trilogy so of course I can't wait for The Becoming of Noah Shaw! Need I say more about why I want to read it?? I just have to! I'm sure it will be amazing and I just adore that cover. If you haven't read the Mara Dyer trilogy yet, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Anyone else looking forward to The Becoming of  Noah Shaw? What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

I'm ALIIIIIVEEE!!! I Missed My 2nd Blogoversary. Plus Two DNF Mini Reviews :/

I'm alive people!! Sorry I haven't posted anything in what, almost 3 months?!?! Things in my life have been pretty crazy and busy. If anyone is interested about all of that let me know in the comments and I can write a separate blog post soon. For now let me get to some mini reviews!!

Thank you to the author for providing a free ebook copy of Quinsey Wolfe's Glass Vault in exchange for an honest review.

I really, really wanted to like Quinsey Wolfe's Glass Vault. The summary is 100% up my alley and that cover is GORGEOUS.  Unfortunately, I had to DNF the book at about 26%. To be fair that's really not far in and I don't feel like I got to any of the good stuff in the plot. The book just couldn't keep my interest though. The story was a little slow, but really my major issue with the book is that there is too much telling instead of showing. I had the hardest time getting into the story because of this.
#ThatCoverIsStunningTho

I can't personally recommend this one, however I didn't make it that far so if it sounds good to you then give it a go!

Thank you to the author for providing a free ebook copy of Meat in exchange for an honest review.

Meat is the second book in the Teeth series. I really enjoyed the first book and you can find my review for that here Teeth Review. Sadly, I couldn't get into Meat at all. I DNF'd this one at a sad 12%.  I'm not sure why, but I could not get into the story AT ALL. I tried for ages to keep reading, but the story didn't grab me. Personally, I think this one is a case of "It's not you, it's me." I have been so picky with genres lately and I never really felt in the mood for this one. I don't even have anything bad to say about it, I just couldn't get into it.
#MaybeIt'sJustMe?

I can't personally recommend this one since I didn't finish it, however I did enjoy the first book in the series. If you enjoyed that one then I say try this one for sure and see.
#LovedTheFirstBook!

Sorry to be a bummer and come back with two DNF reviews. :/ This year has not been a great reading year for me. I'm super behind on my reading challenge and I've also had so many reads this year that I didn't enjoy. Between that and everything else in my life, I've been fighting a slump for months.

Most importantly though I want to know... HOW IS EVERYONE??!!! I miss all my blogger friends!!! What all did I miss on the blogosphere? Well besides my 2nd Blogoversary which was yesterday. LOL!

The Turn (The Hollows 0.1) By: Kim Harrison Review

Thank you to Gallery Books for providing a free copy of The Turn By: Kim Harrison in exchange for an honest review.

The Hollows is a series that I have been wanting to try for a while. I own the first book in the series, but I still haven't read it yet. Still I was very intrigued to read this full length prequel novel since it sounded so great!
#SeriesI'veBeenMeaningToTry

Well even though I haven't read the other books I really enjoyed The Turn! I liked the MC Trisk quite a bit and I really felt for her throughout the whole book. Even when sometimes I thought she was making some dumb decisions, I still felt for her. Trisk is just very likeable and she really made the whole book for me. I also love that she is a dark elf because I don't read books about elves often.
#LovedTrisk

Another thing I really enjoyed is all of the science and genetics in the novel. I think that is a very interesting take on a book about supernaturals. I feel like that is something that I normally wouldn't like, but it is so well done in this book.
#VeryWellDone

Overall I liked The Turn quite a bit even though I haven't read any of the other books. After reading this one though I definitely need to read the first book in the series as soon as I can.
#AddingTheFirstBookToMyOutrageousTBR!

I recommend The Turn for anyone interested in a supernatural book with a touch of science, even if you haven't read the rest of the series yet! Also, I think if you have read the other books in the series and enjoyed it then you would probably like this one as well.

The Guardian's Heart By: Gabriel Lea Review

Thank you to the author for providing a free ebook copy of The Guardian's Heart in exchange for an honest review!

Short Review Summary:
A sweet story with excellent characters.

I really enjoyed The Guardian's Heart and most everything about it. However, I did have a couple of issues that kept me from giving it five stars. The biggest issue that I have is the world building. I really wanted more of it! There were times while reading that I had a hard time focusing because I was trying to figure out the world. By the end of the novel I just felt like something was missing in the world building department.
#MoreWorldBuildingNeeded

The other tiny issues I have is the few chapters from Christian's POV and the love triangle that really wasn't. I could have done without both of these things. They just seemed so unnecessary to the story and it wasn't full blown enough to be exciting for me.
#UnnecesaryToTheStory

I will say though that I really loved Christian's character. As a matter of fact I really loved all of the characters!! I connected with Lilly and Jay right away and their story is wonderfully written. I love how everything between them is so natural and easy. I also really loved Sky and the friendship between her and Lilly. I would have liked to have seen even more of that friendship and the friendship between Lilly and Christian.
#CharactersOnPoint

Overall I liked The Guardian's Heart quite a bit despite a few issues. I did struggle with the world building, but the story and characters are where the book really shines. The premise is unique and I absolutely loved the characters and the story.
#TheStoryAndCharactersShine

I recommend The Guardian's Heart for fans of romance/fantasy novels about soulmates.

Venom & Vanilla By: Shannon Mayer ARC DNF/MINI Review

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a free ebook copy of Venom & Vanilla By: Shannon Mayer in exchange for an honest review.

Short Review Summary:
Not for me at all.

Well Venom & Vanilla is not what I was expecting, and not in a good way. I made it maybe about 60-70% through before I had to give up on it. I couldn't take it seriously! Some of the things that happened are too silly to be believable. I don't care for that at all.
#UmNo

Also, I found some parts to be a bit weird and there isn't enough world building to really support the weirdness. There isn't enough depth, venom, or action in the story for me and it didn't help that I did not like the brainless MC Alena. Part of that may have been her overuse of the term "super duper," which annoyed me to no end. Or perhaps it's how thanks to her supernatural change she's so beautiful now and has longer legs...blah blah. I'm really over supernatural changes making female characters go from plain to gorgeous, especially when it's done in a cheesy way. I have to admit that I'm pretty disappointed since I was looking forward to this one so much, but it just didn't do it for me.
#NotSuperDuper

I can't personally recommend Venom & Vanilla, but if you like your urban fantasy books very vanilla then no harm in trying it!
