Bossypants By: Tina Fey Review

Hooray! I have finished 1 book out of my Insane Genre Challenge! Only 35 more books to go for this challenge. If you would like to join the Goodreads group you can find that here Goodreads Insane Genre Challenge Group.

Let me start this review by admitting that this cover with the man hands freaks me out a little bit. I also have to admit that I'm not a Tina Fey fan. I'm not saying that I dislike Tina Fey, but I have only seen her in Mean Girls. That's right, that means that I have not watched 30 Rock and I'm not a SNL fan. Sorry! Don't shoot me! I decided to read Bossypants anyway because everyone kept telling me how funny it is so I figured I would give it a shot.

Even though I'm pretty clueless when it comes to Tina Fey, I enjoyed her book quite a bit. I kept thinking to myself this is one smart (and hilarious) lady! Even though in some parts of the book the topics transitioned roughly from one topic to another, Bossypants is a terrific read. Tina tells us all about her growing up, her career, her honeymoon, and having a baby.

I think what I liked best about Bossypants is Tina's ability to be honest, insightful, and hilarious all at the same time. I really enjoyed her parts about being very skinny and being a little too fat. I think most of us women can relate to that struggle. The struggle is real. Way too real.

Unfortunately, since I've never seen 30 Rock and I'm not a SNL fan I didn't care as much for those parts as I did the rest of the book. I think that Tina Fey has a lot of interesting things to say about both (and her career in general), but I think a fan of the shows would care more than I did.

Overall Bossypants is a pretty great book. There were parts that literally made me LOL and there are quite a few good quotes in this book. Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from the book:

"Do your thing and don't care if they like it." - Tina Fey, Bossypants

"Gay people don't actually try to convert people. That's Jehovah's Witnesses you're thinking of."- Tina Fey, Bossypants.

"My ability to turn good news into anxiety is rivaled only by my ability to turn anxiety into chin acne." - Tina Fey, Bossypants

I would recommend Bossypants to anyone that enjoys a good laugh, people who like memoirs, and to everyone really.
