The Haters By: Jesse Andrews DNF Mini Review

I won The Haters from the Goodreads Giveaways program. Thank you to Goodreads!

Guys, I'm sorry. I've seen lots of love for this book, but it just was not for me. It's a shame because I was so THRILLED to have won it from Goodreads. I just could not get into it. I did not care for the characters at all. The writing style was not for me either. I also don't think the humor of the novel was the kind of humor that I enjoy. Even though I was not enjoying the novel I did want to give the book a longer shot, but there was one thing that majorly pissed me off.  I know that Wes and Corey are haters and that is their thing and that's completely fine. What I was not fine with however was when Wes was talking about how he used to like Kool and the Gang until Corey came along and told him they were cheesy. Then Wes hated their music. Um, follower much? I'm sorry, but I CAN'T stand it when people like things and then stop because someone else doesn't like it. Well that made me be a hater towards Wes and I don't even care to find out if he eventually learns to just be himself or whatever.
#LAME

Overall despite a promising premise (and EXCELLENT cover) The Haters just was not for me. There was nothing good about it and so I DNF'd it. Perhaps this would be a good book for some out there, but I can't recommend it. I do recommend borrowing this one from the library if you are going to give it a shot though.

Graphic Novel Mini Reviews (Rat Queens Vol. 1-3 & Outcast Vol. 1)

Rat Queens Vol. 1: Sass & Sorcery By: Kurtis J. Wiebe & Illustrated By: Roc Upchurch

I wasn't sure what to think about this when I first picked it up, but it turned out amazing! Rat Queens is such a great D&D-esque graphic novel for women! I'm not saying men would not like it because I think they will too. However I think it's so great that this is a fantasy graphic novel with some kick ass females!
#BadassBitches

This series is hilarious and I like all of the cool twists on all of the overdone fantasy tropes.  I love that this series takes includes many things that make fantasy awesome,  but it also bucks the trends a bit. As a female I also love how all of the girls have realistic body types. I love the Rat Queens! Keep in mind this is written by a man too! There are a lot of diverse characters in Rat Queens and I really appreciate that. There's also lots of action, great artwork, and the story is very fast-paced.
#DiverseAndDifferent

Overall I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Rat Queens. It just got better and better and the story went on. By the end I loved all of the characters, but Hannah is my favorite.
Can you see why? LOL! This graphic novel had me laughing out loud for real and wanting to tell my husband everything that was happening. I had to control myself though since he wanted to read it after me.
#PureGenius

Rat Queens Vol. 2: The Far Reaching Tentacles of N'rygoth By: Kurtis J. Wiebe & Illustrated By: Roc Upchurch and Stjephan Sejic

Hannah, Hannah, Hannah...oh how I love her sarcasm and sass! I am so glad that after I finished the first volume I immediately went out and bought volumes 2&3.
#BackToTheBookstore

We got to see more of Dee and her backstory in this one. Which made me happy since Dee is my second favorite character! There was also more backstory for Hannah and Violet as well. I hope we get more backstory for Betty soon.  I just love all of the characters. They are each so full of personality and humor. There were so many parts that had me laughing out loud for real in this volume as well. This series has such a great blend of fantasy and comedy.
#GreatCharacters

So the comic book store clerk was telling my husband and I that this series has had a lot of artist changes. I don't recall all of the details, but you can definitely tell there have been changes. The first volume had better artwork. Unfortunately it is what it is and at least the story in this one was just as good as the first.
#ArtistChanges

Overall the second volume of Rat Queens was just as good as the first. You may have to hang in there as far as the artwork goes. Hopefully it will get settled and then at least be consistent with one artist. The series is worth it though.
#HangInThere

Rat Queens Vol. 3: Demons By: Kurtis J. Wiebe & Illustrated By: Tamra Bonvillain

So Rat Queens Vol. 3 was not quite as good as the first two volumes. Keep in mind with all of the crazy artist changes this has obviously affected the writing. It just felt like something vital was missing in this one. Volume three was not as funny or as good as the first two volumes, but it wasn't horrible either.
#MissingSomething

Overall since this series was so well done for volumes one and two I will continue and see how volume four of Rat Queens is. I am hoping that the artist they have now will stay on and there won't be any more artwork changes. If that's the case then I think the story will improve in the next volume. I can't wait for volume four to see what Hannah, Dee, Violet, and Betty will be up to next.
#INeedMore

I recommend all of the Rat Queens series to all fantasy fans looking for something with a group of kick ass chicks that is fresh, sassy, and hilarious.

Outcast Vol.1: A Darkness Surrounds Him By: Robert Kirkman & Illustrated By: Paul Azaceta

Okay, so don't shoot me or anything...I haven't read any of The Walking Dead comic book series yet. :x However, Outcast is by the same writer so I really wanted to give this series a shot.
#RobertKirkman

I have to admit I am not the biggest fan of the artwork in this series. It's not bad, but it's just okay for me. The story though is really interesting. Kyle is very intriguing to me and I can't wait to see more of his backstory. I want to know what exactly is going on with him and why. His character is so complex and very deep. The story is also good, but I think it's Kyle that really makes this one work. All of the demonic possesion stuff is a bit creepy though!
#NeedMoreInfoAboutKyle

Overall Outcast Vol. 1 was not my favorite graphic novel, but it was still a great start to the series. I am hoping that Vol. 2 is even better and we get more information. I can't wait to read the next one and see!
#NextPlease

I recommend Outcast Vol. 1 for anyone that likes stories about demonic possession and character driven stories.
#DemonicPossession

Whew! So that was a lot of mini reviews to pack into one post. I hope most of it is coherent since I read all of these in about 2-3 days. I really did enjoy all of these graphic novels and I recommend them all! I am so glad I have gotten into graphic novels becuase there are so many good ones!

Top Ten Tuesday- Top FIVE Books That Will Make You Laugh

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at The Broke and the Bookish. The topic for this week is Top Ten Books To Make You Laugh.

So for my list I could only come up with five books that REALLY make me laugh. I don't read a lot of humor novels, but I do love when my books have some humor in it. These are the few that have made me laugh out loud the most.

1. The Stephanie Plum Series By: Janet Evanovich

I just love this series and Stephanie is HILARIOUS. She is always getting herself into the funniest situations.  Also, Lula is just as funny!

2. The Dresden Files By: Jim Butcher

I know I've talked about this UF series a lot, but have I mentioned how hilarious Harry Dresden is? He is another character that is always getting into comical situations and his witty sarcasm is top notch.

3. A Man Called Ove By: Fredrik Backman

Ove is so grumpy, but hilarious! This one is very touching and emotional, but there are a lot of parts that had me laughing out loud.

4. Napalm & Silly Putty By: George Carlin

George Carlin. No more needs to be said here.

5. Bossypants By: Tina Fey

While I've never really seen anything with Tina Fey in it (Does Mean Girls count?),  her book is hilarious!! Definitely worth a read whether you're a fan of Tina or not.

So that's it for my list this week. It's super short, but I still wanted to do this topic because these books are so damn funny. Have you read any of these? What humorous books would you recommend?
