Top Ten Tuesday- Top Ten Books I Meant To Get To In 2017

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted here at The Broke and the Bookish. The topic this week is Top Ten Books I Meant To Get To In 2017. I sure do have plenty of those for a list, but I narrowed it down to ten and hopefully I will get to them all this year!

Here's a picture with some of the books on my list and a few of the other books (including re-reads) that I want to get to ASAP. Also, I may have bought a few books that are now on the top of my TBR list too.

Anyway, I'll do a book haul post later in the week or next week and I think at that time I'll make a complete TBR list that I will do my best not to deviate from. I need help and an intervention obviously! LOL!

Short Review Summary: 

I loved it and so did both of my 9 year old sons! 

I really enjoyed The Peculiar Night of the Blue Heart. The writing is really lovely and the story is perfect for a child who is on a middle grade reading level, but enjoyable for adults too. The plot was of course a bit obvious for me, but that's to be expected since I'm an adult. My favorite thing about the book though is the relationship between Lionel and Marybeth. It's really sweet and I like how they helped each other.

Overall The Peculiar Night of the Blue Heart is an enjoyable read. I would love to read more by this author since this is my first by her. Also, it's a fantasy/paranormal book, but it's not scary at all. I could see this as a movie too.

I recommend The Peculiar Night of the Blue Heart to middle grade readers for the upcoming cold months! It's coming upon the perfect season for these kind of reads.

Waiting on Wednesday- The Hammer of Thor (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #2) By: Rick Riordan

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at Breaking the Spine. The idea behind it is to share upcoming releases that we can't wait to get our hands on!

My pick for this week is The Hammer of Thor By: Rick Riordan. I really enjoyed The Sword of Summer and I can't wait to read the second book in the Magnus Chase series! I just finished the first one and my son is reading it now. This is a great series for kids and adults, just like the Percy Jackson series. I can't wait to see what Magnus is up to next!! 

Expected Publication Date: October 4, 2016 

Anyone else read The Sword of Summer and looking forward to The Hammer of Thor? This one looks like it has more to do with Thor and  Loki so I'm pretty excited about that! What are you waiting on this Wednesday? 

5 Reasons To Read The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #1) By: Rick Riordan (Mini Review)

FIVE Reasons To Read The Sword of Summer: 

1. It's HILARIOUS! 

I've only read the Percy Jackson series by Riordan prior to this so I wasn't sure what I was going to get. I was incredibly happy that this has the same kind of humor that the Percy Jackson series has. 

2. Rick Riordan Can Write!

I just love the writing! There's, humor, lots of action, and it's just FUN. He definitely knows how to write for young boys and girls, but it's great for adults as well.  I just finished it and next one of my sons (he's 8) is going to read it! 

3. Similar To Percy Jackson

Not only is the humor in The Sword of Summer similar to Percy Jackson, but the main characters are similar as well.  Here you have a different story and completely different mythology (this is NORSE mythology), but the formula is pretty much the same. 

4. NORSE Mythology

Unlike Greek Mythology, I knew nothing about Norse Mythology going into this one. Thor? Loki? Aren't those comic book/movie characters? 

5. Action

The Sword of Summer is action packed from start to finish. It took me a while to read this one since I was super busy, but really I didn't spend much actual reading time on it. It's very entertaining and fast paced. 

Overall I really enjoyed The Sword of Summer. I have liked all of the Rick Riordan books that I've read so far. Riordan definitely has a niche here that works for him. If you like his other books then you'll probably like this one too! I'm looking forward to reading the second one in this series!
