Top Ten Tuesday- My Top Ten Most OCD Bookish Habits

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at The Broke and the Bookish. The topic for this week is top ten bookish resolutions for 2015, but I'm doing one from the past list instead. I'm doing my top ten most OCD bookish habits.

I decided not to do top ten bookish resolutions because I never make resolutions. I'm a little superstitious about it. I don't want to set myself up to fail or give myself too much stress over it. So no resolutions for me! I chose to do my top ten most OCD bookish habits because it seemed like a fun one to do. I'm curious what some of yours are too!

1.) Ever since I joined Goodreads that has added a whole new level of OCD for me. On Goodreads I have to add what book I'm currently reading right away, I have to organize my shelves often (still a work in progress), I have to rate a book as soon as I'm finished, and I have to update my progress often while reading a book.

2,) I have many bookmarks and I can't use the same one for too long.

3.) I have to ban myself from the library. I own many books and I need to read what I own, but when new releases come out (and I can't afford to buy them) I want to borrow them from the library.

4.) I hate dust covers. I take them off when I read the book because they are annoying.

5.) When I go to pick up my kids from school I like to get there a little early so I can read a few minutes on my book.

6.) Sometimes I like to take my book with me in my purse, even if I know I won't get to read it wherever I'm going. I've noticed that I do this more when I'm nervous or anxious about wherever I'm going.

7.) I'm bad about finishing series sometimes. I've done better the past few years, but I still have lots of series that I have started and haven't finished that I need to. It drives me crazy.

8.) I dislike reading on more than one book at a time. I can, I have, and I will again, but I don't like to do that.

9.) I read in the bathtub. All the time. And no, I've never dropped a book in the tub or gotten one wet.

10.) I don't like reading with the TV on. I can, but I prefer to have on music or no noise at all. However, I have kids so I've learned to read with anything going on. I'm a pro! Ha!

Well that's a few of my OCD bookish habits. Do you do any of these as well? What OCD bookish habits do you have?

  1. I read in the bathtub too! All the time. But I frequently drop the books in the tub.

  2. I have OCD in other factions of my everyday life, so I tend to just consider my bookish traits as just teeny tiny personality flaws. 1. Series books on my shelves have to match. I try to keep it going with hardcovers or paperbacks, but that's not always achievable. Just getting the same cover art will do. I hate when a series book cover gets changed halfway through because the publisher wants to go another route. We kicked up a lot of fuss because of The Winner's Trilogy cover changes. I want the final book to match the ones on my shelf, I could care less about that misleading new cover the publisher has going on. Oh God, I'm rambling. Anyway, that is my biggest PF, or OCD traits when it comes to my books.

    1. I wish I had all my series books matching! I'm not OCD about it, but that would be nice.

  3. I can't buy a book with a cover I hate even if the book sounds amazing and I'm really looking forward to it. To get around this I usually buy the Kindle version or see if other countries have better covers. =)

    1. Oh that's a great way to get around it! I really love a lot of UK covers. Sometimes I wish I had bought those lol.

  4. I feel the same way about Goodreads. Even though it's such a blessing, it is also a nightmare because I keep finding new books to had to my want to read folder! :|
Great Top Ten! Thanks for stopping by BookComa!

    1. So true! My to-read list is over 7,000 books. I will never be able to read all of those lol.

  5. Numbers 5 and 7 are so me too! LOL! I do love Goodreads for the soul purpose of keeping track of what I own, want to read, are reading, and the ARCs I know I have left to read. I sometimes think I would be lost without it!

    1. I would be lost without goodreads as well. I drive myself crazy with it, but I love it too!

  6. I have to say that this is a very relatable post! Although, I don't enjoy reading in the bathtub.

  7. I agree with your superstition actually. I think once you acknowledge it, it makes it real lol. These so similar to my ocd's. Bookworm problems

    1. Bookworm problems is right! Lol.

Yeah I really would just rather work on why I want to work on without acknowledging it like that. :)

  8. Love your list! I'm pretty much exactly the same as you except for the one book at a time thing.

The bath is my favourite place to read.

    1. Thanks! I wish I could read more than one book at a time more often, but I get anxiety over it lol!!

  9. Oh, can I ever relate to so many of these on so many levels. i am generally the worst at reading two books at a time. The only exception is if I am working away at a chunkster. I did that with The Stand and will be doing it with Les Mis. I am a fanatic with Goodread and I hate dust jackets, but can't remove them since there is something about having it all together. Instead I read in the most uncomfortable of positions in order to not bend anything. So stupid!

  11. I take the dust covers off too, but mostly because I don't want them to get buggered while I am reading..LOL

    1. That's also a good point! Mostly I don't want it in my way, but I don't want it to get ruined either.

  12. I'm with you on a lot of these! I can't stand dust covers either! I sometimes tape them to the book before reading, but if I don't I take them off while reading. And I don't like reading more than one book at a time either. I've realized I'm like this with more than just books (TV shows and food especially). I think I just like to completely immerse myself in something and feel the full effect of it, if that makes any sense. Great list!

    1. That's a good idea to tape them before reading! And it doesn't tear up the books when you take the tape off?

  13. Haha! This is amazing! I'm the same way about dust covers. They slide all over the place when 'm trying to read!

    Here are my Top Ten!

  14. I have gotten good at reading during any noise also. Haha once you have kids, it's just mandatory to learn to tune out sometimes if you want to stay sane :) And I always bring a book with me also. Cause you never know!!

    1. So true, having kids you learn to tune out a lot of things. Like SpongeBob and Dora the Explorer for hours. Haha!

  15. Nice! I can relate to most of these habits. I read in the shower too and have yet to get a book wet. :D

  17. Great list, Erin! I know what you mean about being a bit superstitious when it comes to resolutions - it's one of the main reasons I like to keep mine quite simple. I totally agree with 1 and 7! I'm pretty sure I'm on Goodreads more than any other social media site...

    1. That's a good way to do resolutions if you're going to do it, keep it simple! :) Right?! I'm on Goodreads more than anything else. I can go on there and then realized that hours have passed. Oops!

  18. I also prefer to read one book at a time, but school makes that impossible so I have learned to adapt. I HATE baths, and always have, but the idea of reading in the tub makes me wish I liked them! I do love reading while floating in the pool though.

  19. Reading more than one book is always so distracting. Diggin' this list! I have this thing where once I start a book I feel like I'm in a race to finish. It's weird and I don't know why I do it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I do that too sometimes. Mostly because I have so many I want to read so I feel like I need to finish so I can get to others. I try to ignore that though because I will never read all the books that I want to lol!!

  20. I find tv and many other background sounds annoying to while I'm trying to read too!!

I also carry a book around with me too... Just in case I have time to do some reading!

    1. It's always good to be prepared! I hate when I forget and I end up somewhere with time on my hands and no book.
