Top Ten Tuesday- Top Ten Books I Feel DIfferently About After Time Has Passed

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is Top Ten Books I Feel Differently About After Time Has Passed.

There really aren't that many books that I end up feeling different about later, but it does happen. I have a few that later I realized I didn't like it as much and a few that I ended up liking even more.  So I decided to split them up into those two categories!

Books That I Didn't Like As Much After Time Passed:

1. Breaking Dawn- Stephenie Meyer

When I first read the Twilight series and Breaking Dawn came out I was not fully happy with this book. However over time and a few rereads I began to really hate this one. The more I thought about it the more I disliked it. Especially the big lead up to a battle at the end and NOTHING HAPPENED. I've since changed the rating for this one from like a three to a one star rating.

2. Perks of Being A Wallflower By: Stephen Chbosky

After I read Perks of Being A Wallflower I rated it five stars because I really enjoyed it. However, later a few things about Charlie and how people treated him bugged me and I brought it down to a three star rating.

3. Evermore By: Alyson Noel

On Goodreads I had Evermore rated four stars (the second book two stars), but now I can't even remember what happened in the book. I can recall that I didn't like the writing, but the story was okay in this one. I just don't remember anything that happened so I must not have liked it enough for four stars. I've since changed it to two stars.

4. The Wedding By: Nicholas Sparks

I don't know why I liked this one after reading The Notebook. I literally don't remember ANYTHING about this book. I couldn't even recall who this one was about. I changed the rating on this one as well down to two stars.

5. Mockingjay By: Suzanne Collins

I don't know why, but I had this one rated five stars after I first finished it. I didn't really like it though after some time passed. It's okay, but I wasn't pleased with this book overall. So I changed it to three stars a while back.

6. The Heir- Kiera Cass

This one is probably my least drastic change. I really enjoyed The Heir and I rated it four stars, but after some time I realized I didn't like it THAT much. I've since changed it to three stars.

Books That I Like More After Time Passed:

1. The Lord of the Rings By: J.R.R. Tolkien

After I first read LOTR I think I was just so exhausted from it. I liked it, but didn't love it. Then later my love and appreciation for it really grew. It's very epic and J.R.R. is VERY wordy.  It was a struggle to get through, but the story is well worth the five stars I've since changed the rating to.

2. Ender's Game By: Orson Scott Card

Ender's Game is my husband's all time favorite novel.  So when we first got married all I heard for years was how I needed to read this book. I would tell him I'm not really into space type books and he would tell me that's not really what it's like. So I finally gave in and read it (We had some sort of deal we made and I'm sure I got something awesome in return haha!) and I did like it, but I didn't think it was the best book or anything. After some time I liked it more and rated it four stars, but it's still not my favorite book or anything. I have zero desire to read any more Orson Scott Card books.

3. Partholon Series By: P.C. Cast

I should have put this book on my last TTT about picking up books on a whim, but I didn't think of it. I just randomly picked this one up at the library and read the first three books. I really enjoyed reading these and I rated them four stars on Goodreads. Now after some time I keep thinking about this series and wanting to know what happened. I want to reread the ones I have read and continue the series. I really need to buy these and I think this would go up to five stars for sheer enjoyment reasons.

4. Vampire Academy By: Richelle Mead

I read the first two in the Vampire Academy series and I rated both three stars and then I had no desire to continue. However, during that time it seemed like all there was in YA was vampire books. Now that the vampire craze has died down a little and I'm not burned out I think I would enjoy these more. Over time I keep thinking about the characters and the story and I really want to see what happens. I think I would like this one more with a reread.

So that's it for my Top Ten Books I Feel Differently About After Time Has Passed. Like I said, for me most of my book ratings and opinions stick. There is one every now and then that I do change my mind on though. What about you, do you change ratings often? What do you think of these books on my list? What books have you felt differently about after some time has passed?

Top Ten Tuesday- Top Ten Covers I Wish Would Get Redesigned

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at The Broke and the Bookish. The topic for this week is Top Ten Childhood Characters You'd Love To Revisit As Adults.

I wasn't really feeling the topic this week about childhood characters so I picked one from the list of previously done topics. I decided to to Top Ten Covers I Wish Would Get Redesigned. I wanted to do this topic because recently there have been some cover reveals that I really just LOVED (Beautiful Broken Girls, Caraval) and some that I didn't care for as much (A Torch Against the Night) and it got me thinking about covers in general. I am a sucker for a good cover. I know the saying don't judge a book by it's cover and I FULLY agree that you should not judge a book by it's ugly cover. However if the cover is gorgeous I will admit it makes me want to read it more. What's wrong with that?! So here are some GREAT books with UGLY covers that I really wish had better covers to match what's inside.

1. Bossypants By: Tina Fey

I'm sorry, but those man hands have got to go. Bossypants is a really great book, but this cover just doesn't go well with it for me.

2. The Host By: Stephenie Meyer

I think this cover is just really blah and unexciting. The Host was a little difficult to get into in the beginning, but overall the book was pretty good. I think that cover would make some people put off on reading it.

3. Divergent Series By: Veronica Roth

Sorry, but I hate the Divergent series covers. I think they look odd. I do think the one for Allegiant is the better cover (best of the worst) of the three, but I hated that book. :/

4. Playlist for the Dead By: Michelle Falkoff

The hardback cover for Playlist of the Dead is boring, but it isn't too terrible. It got worse with the paperback cover. I don't like the word in yellow and the rest is just a boring set of headphones. ZZZ...

5. Daughter of Deep Silence By: Carrie Ryan

I had to put this one on here just for this paperback cover. The hardback cover isn't bad. I actually kind of like it with the red and the font for the words. I don't know what they were thinking with the paperback cover though. Everything about it is hideous. The color is weird, it's dull, I don't like the color of the words on top of the blue. It's just bad.

6. Interview with the Vampire By: Anne Rice

Can Interview with the Vampire get a good cover? Nope.

7. The Notebook By: Nicholas Sparks

Okay so I picked The Notebook, but what I really mean is ALL Nicholas Sparks books. There's a trend here obviously and it's BORING.

8. If I Stay By: Gayle Forman

If I Stay is such a good book! These covers are not good though. Bleh. I don't even know what else to say about them because they are so dull.

9. Mechanica By: Betsy Cornwell

Okay, the cover for Mechanica isn't THAT bad. I do like the writing and the colors. However, there is something kind of junky looking about it. I don't know. The book is really great and I would like to see a new cover for it.

10. The Girl from the Well By: Rin Chupeco

I didn't like the hardback cover for this one. Maybe because I hate birds? I'm not sure. The paperback cover is better, but I'm pretty meh about it overall. Maybe it's the color of the letters because I like the cover for the sequel, The Suffering, just fine.

Notable Mention:

A Torch Against the Night By: Sabaa Tahir

This one is a notable mention since I haven't read it yet. The first one was so great I'm assuming this one will be as well.  So I'm sorry to all the people I know are going to hate me for this one, but I don't like this cover. I know, I know I saw everyone on Twitter raving about how good it is. I don't agree and it's not even out yet and I want it redesigned. Sorry.

So that's it for my Top Ten Tuesday! What do you guys think about these covers? What covers would you just LOVE to see redesigned?

Top Ten Tuesday- Top Ten Books I Read That Helped Open Me Up To New Genres

I'm back from vacation! Well I came back Sunday night, but I'm back to the blog today. I missed my blogger friends and I can't wait to see what posts I've missed! I'll be going around later today catching up on posts. :)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at The Broke and the Bookish. The topic for this week is Top Ten Books I Read Recently That Weren't My Typical Genre.

So I decided to do my own little twist on this one and do my top ten books that helped open me up to new genres. When I was a kid I read horror and only horror. I eventually made my way into some new genres. I still have a few more to break into which is why the Insane Genre Challenge has been so great for me. I just love this topic and here are the books that really helped open me up to some new genres.

*Note: These may not be the FIRST books I read in the genre. They are the first ones that I really enjoyed in the genre enough to make me want to explore deeper in the genre.*

1. Guilty Pleasures By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy)

2. Locke & Key Vol. 1 By: Joe Hill (Graphic Novels)

3. Black Butler Vol. 1 By: Yana Toboso (Manga)

4. Twilight By: Stephenie Meyer (YA)

5. Malice By: Danielle Steel (Romance)

6. Ugly Love By: Colleen Hoover (NA)

7. Along Came A Spider By: James Patterson (Mystery/Thriller)

8. Dracula By: Bram Stoker (Gothic)

9. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone By: J.K. Rowling (Fantasy)

10. My Sister's Keeper By: Jodi Picoult (Contemporary)

Honorable Mentions-

I didn't include these on the list since the Goosebumps books are what got me into reading anyway so it wasn't really a new genre. Same with The Giver since it was the first book I had to read at school that I actually enjoyed. So while they don't really count for my list I wanted to mention them since they started me on these genres.

Welcome to Dead House By: R.L. Stine (Horror)
The Giver By: Lois Lowry (Classics)

Are there any books that really helped open you up to new genres? If so, which books?
