Waiting on Wednesday- Lifeblood (Everlife #2) By: Gena Showalter

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at Breaking the Spine. The idea behind it is to share upcoming releases that we can't wait to get our hands on!

My pick this week is Lifeblood, the second book in the Everlife series By: Gena Showalter. I just posted my review for the first book Firstlife last week (here's that if you want to take a look Firstlife Review) and I really enjoyed it. So of course I can't wait to read book two! I love Gena Showalter's writing and this series has a really unique concept. I can't wait to see what happens with Ten next and I hope we get even more information about Troika and Myriad in this book!

Expected Publication Date: February 28, 2017

Does Lifeblood sound good to you as well? Have you read Firstlife yet? What do you think about the cover? I like the picture and the gold, but it's not my favorite cover out there. What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

Firstlife By: Gena Showalter Review

So far I have loved all of the Gena Showalter books that I've read. So when I saw Firstlife I knew I would have to give it a shot. Even though the summary sounds...strange. Maybe a little too strange for me, but I knew that if Gena wrote it then it must be good. Right?
#TroikaOrMyriad?

Well it is good!! The whole idea of Firstlife and Everlife is very intriguing. I think after reading this one I still want more information about Troika, Myriad, and Everlife in general. I'm hoping in the next book there will be even more details!! I'm sure there will be.
#INeedMoreDetails

One thing that I really liked is the poems here and there in the novel that can be read down and up. I know that is random and such a small detail, but I really think that is such a cool tidbit. Something I did not think was a cool tidbit though is Ten's number OCD. That really started to grate on my nerves. In general Ten started to get on my nerves as the book went on. Which is ultimately what led this to be a 4 star book instead of a 5 star book for me. I will say that I really like both Archer and Killian. That was a major plus!
#AlmostFiveStars

Overall I am not sure what I expected from Firstlife, but it is better than what I thought it would be. I don't think it's for everyone though, because it is a little out there. Gena Showalter is such a talented writer and I'm curious where she will take this story in book two.
#BetterThanExpected

I recommend Firstlife for Gena Showalter fans and for anyone remotely curious. I don't think the summary (or review) can accurately sum this one up without spoilers. You'll just have to try it for yourself!

Waiting on Wednesday- Firstlife By: Gena Showalter

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at Breaking the Spine. The idea behind it is to share upcoming releases that we can't wait to get our hands on!

So my pick for this week is Firstlife By: Gena Showalter. I love Gena Showalter's writing and I am so excited about this first novel in a new series. For those of you who haven't read any of her novels yet, I highly recommend the White Rabbit Chronicles and The Lords of the Underworld series. I'm really anxious to get my hands on this one because the concept is really fascinating. I'm curious about the two realms and the Everlife and what exactly it is like. Plus I know that if Gena Showalter is writing it then it will be good!

Expected Publication Date: February 23, 2016

Summary From Goodreads:

ONE CHOICE.

TWO REALMS.

NO SECOND CHANCE.

Tenley "Ten" Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl... who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she'll live--after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she's drawn to isn't home to the boy she is falling for? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision...

A Mad Zombie Party By: Gena Showalter Review

So this was me when I heard that Gena Showalter was writing another Alice in Zombieland book...

...and well this was me after reading the book.

Okay, that's not really how I was. Not 100% anyway. I did REALLY like it.

A Mad Zombie Party was enjoyable, but I didn't love it like I did the other three books in the series. For one thing the beginning of the book was very hard for me to get in to. Now I've been sick off and on for a week or so, but that wasn't the problem. No, the problem was that the beginning of the book was dull for me and I was still hating Camilla from shit  *ish* that went down in the last book. Now I'm supposed to like her and root for her??

Once I got over that (I DID!) the book did get better, but it just seemed to be missing the magic the other three books had. The plot was okay, but as far as the "big bad" it really seemed to be more talking then things actually happening. I never really believed anyone was in grave danger or anything. The zombies really took a backseat in this book too. I found A Mad Zombie Party to be more about tying up lose ends for Frosty romantically and to have a nice ending (it was wrapped up perfectly with a matching bow) all around for the whole group. I have to admit I do like having a more concrete ending.

Of course Gena Showalter's romance writing is amazing in this book (as always) and I was surprised that by the end I was rooting for the romance! BY THE WAY I recommend this series by Gena Showalter if you like her romance stuff in the Alice in Zombieland series or Paranormal Romance novels: The Darkest Night <----- Seriously this series is amazing too!!

Overall I enjoyed the fourth Alice in Zombieland book. A Mad Zombie Party isn't QUITE as good as the other three novels, but it was still pretty darn good. I recommend A Mad Zombie Party for .... fans of the other books in the series!! Also, if you haven't read any of this series I recommend you go pick up the first book NOW. Or YESTERDAY. :P

Birthday Book Haul Part 1

BOOK HAUL!!!

I love books and I love shopping, so of course I love BOOK SHOPPING!! Thank you to my friends and family for all the wonderful birthday gifts I received. You all know me so well. I could not wait to get to the book store and shop! It still amazes me how fast I can spend money in the bookstore. Isn't that all of us bookworms though?

 Book Haul Part 1 :

I'm so ready to get started on The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. I read the first one right after it came out, but I don't remember anything. I just remember that it was very good. Now that I've finally finished all of The Mortal Instruments series I need this to fill that hole in my life. Also, this box set is gorgeous! Has anyone read all of these yet? What did you think of them?

Reawakened!!! I've been hearing many good things about this one by Colleen Houck. I haven't read The Tiger Saga by her yet, but I may have to if Reawakened is really good. Has anyone read The Tiger Saga? I've heard of it, but I haven't heard anything about if it's a must read or not. I also got at Half Price Books for $1 each, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen and the first two in the Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter. I've read the first five in this series before, but I didn't have the first two books. I'm glad I found these, and for cheap, because I need to go back and start over on this series. I know I have forgotten some things that happened early on. I just absolutely LOVE this series. I really recommend it to all paranormal romance fans. I also recommend Gena Showalter's Alice in Zombieland YA series. Gena's writing is always superb.

Recently I've gotten a little bit into watching anime and reading mangas. I was put off at first by having to read the mangas from right to left, but now I'm used to it. I was also put off at first by anime because I thought it was all silly. Well let me be the first to say it, I was wrong. I've found some of them have really deep and dark story lines. Which I enjoy a lot. I am pleasantly surprised! I've watched all of the anime for these, so I'm excited to start reading the books.  Especially Ouran High School Host Club since there is only one season of the show. :/ I NEED Tamaki and Haruhi to get together. Lol! By the way, does anyone else love how satirical Ouran is? Greatness.

Annnnnnnnd this is a shirt my parents bought for me. I just thought I would share because it's awesome!! I love it and of course I would always rather be reading. :D :D :D

I have a few more mangas coming in the mail and a bookstore gift card left to spend. So there will definitely be a birthday book haul part 2.  Thank you again to all my friends and family for making my birthday special.

So has anyone else had a book haul (big or small!) lately? Comment below what books you've bought! I'm curious to know what books others are buying. Plus I could always use need ideas for what to buy next!

Happy reading everyone!
