The Passenger By: Lisa Lutz ARC Review

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for allowing me to read and review an ebook copy of The Passenger By: Lisa Lutz.

The Passenger is about a woman named Tanya who leaves town after she finds her husband dead at the bottom of the stairs. She says she didn't kill him, but she doesn't have an alibi. She leaves town and changes her name, many times, and meets Blue. Together they form an alliance and go from city to city on the run.

I really wanted to enjoy The Passenger. I love a good mystery/thriller/psychological book and the summary on this one led me to believe it would be a wild and heart-pounding ride. Unfortunately, it wasn't gripping or thrilling at all.

The first line of the book did grab my attention, but the rest of the beginning was kind of odd. I wasn't sure why Tanya left in the first place and that bugged me. It was done on purpose of course, but it just didn't make sense the way it was done. Even though the start was a little out of whack to me, I kept reading because I wanted to find out some answers.

There was a lot of promise at the start of the book that just did not pan out well. I honestly probably should have just DNF'd The Passenger, but I just cringe every time I have to do that. About halfway through I gave up a little and just skimmed the rest. I'm glad I did because it never got any better for me. I just wanted to get to the end, get the answers I was looking for, and be done with the book. I am very disappointed with the entire plot of the book and even with the answers! The answers were all rushed at the end and even the answers were pretty weird to me.

The main character didn't do anything for me either. I never got a sense of who she was, beneath all of the other names and personas, and I just didn't care about her at all. If you require a character driven plot, then this book would probably irritate you a decent amount.

Overall I wasn't thrilled by this thriller at all. It was not fast-paced. It did not keep me on the edge of my seat. Sadly, The Passenger was very underwhelming and lackluster.

I wouldn't personally recommend The Passenger to anyone, but I do think there is an audience for this kind of book. It just wasn't unique and thrilling enough for me. I wanted MORE from it that just never came.

  4. Seeing that one star is so disappointing. I like her other reads well the ones I read. I still have to review this but I'm hoping to feel better about it!

    1. Hopefully you will like it more than I did. I've never read any of her others so I don't have any to compare it to.
