In an English village named Midwich a mysterious object appears one night and all of the people in the village fall unconscious. A day later everyone wakes up unharmed and unchanged. That is until they discover all of the women are now pregnant.
SMALL SPOILER ALERT-----
It's aliens. It's said in the book pretty early on that it is aliens, but we never really learn a lot about the aliens in the novel. Usually that would irritate me, but in The Midwich Cuckoos I was okay with it. The novel was written very well and it didn't need any more information about the aliens or why they came. The children who were born are plenty creepy enough. Seriously they were pretty scary if you think about it too much. I really enjoyed reading this novel for my Halloween read and I can't wait to read more by John Wyndham.
I would recommend The Midwich Cuckoos to anyone who likes to be creeped out by creepy children. I also recommend this for fans of classic sci-fi/horror novels, such as anything by H.P. Lovecraft or H.G. Wells.

Glad this was still good despite some info missing from the alien aspect of it.
ReplyDeleteI usually dislike that, but it really worked in this one! :)
