Baby Teeth By: Zoje Stage Mini Review

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing a free copy of Baby Teeth By: Zoje Stage in exchange for an honest review.

Baby Teeth reminded me a bit of that old movie The Bad Seed. I love how the POV went back and forth between Suzette and Hanna. For me, it was almost like a double unreliable narrator type of thing. Which I LOVE unreliable narrators! The story is very fast-paced and the ending is phenomenal. It left me with a lot of questions still unanswered, but in a good way! The best books are the ones that you keep thinking about long after you're done reading them. I recommend Baby Teeth for sure.

The Last Time I Lied By: Riley Sager ARC Review

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a free ebook copy of The Last Time I Lied By: Riley Sager in exchange for an honest review.

After reading and enjoying Final Girls by Riley Sager back in November I had to read his upcoming book The Last Time I Lied. I am so glad I got approved on Netgalley for this one. This book was EVEN BETTER. Holy shiitake mushrooms this book was so FANTASTIC. The tension is ON POINT!! It did start off just a tad slow, BUT I really think it helped to build up the tension for later.

I am not sure I liked any of the characters in this one, but wow they all sure were intriguing. I also enjoyed that the chapters went back and forth between the present and 15 years ago. The time jump was very well done. The storyline, atmosphere, and TWISTS were ON POINT as well. The Last Time I Lied defines what it means for a book to be a rollercoaster of twists and turns. You'll need a seatbelt to read this one.

The Retreat By: Mark Edwards ARC Review

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a free ebook copy of The Retreat By: Mark Edwards in exchange for an honest review.

Do you like slow burn and atmospheric mystery/thrillers? Than The Retreat is for you! This may not be the fastest paced book, but it's very intriguing and well written. I liked the MC, Lucas, and how he wanted to help Julia find or find out what happened to her missing child. Oh, and I desperately wanted to know what happened to Lily. That kept pushing me to read on because I HAD to know. I also enjoyed the town myth about The Red Widow. That really added to the atmosphere for me and I'm always a sucker for good atmosphere. Overall The Retreat is a fantastic read, but the ENDING really got me! It was completely unexpected and chilling. I highly recommend The Retreat!

Blood Will Tell (Joplin/Halloran Mystery Book 2) By: P.L. Doss Review

Thank you to Ryder Author Resources for providing a free ebook copy of Blood Will Tell By: P.L. Doss in exchange for an honest review.

Blood Will Tell is the second book in the Joplin/Halloran Mystery series, but I didn't read book one. I don't think you have to read the first book in order to keep up and enjoy this one. However, there were some things in the beginning that were mentioned a lot that made me very intrigued about book one!

This book was a little slow paced for me at first. I kept reading because I wanted to know more about the characters. Halloran I found particularly interesting and the pace did pick up. Once it did, the rest of the book just flew by. There are so many twists and turns and they all led to an unpredictable ending.  Woo hoo! That is my favorite!!

My only issue is that for the first quarter or so of the book I could not keep track of which character's point of view I was reading from. I wish the transitions between the point of views had been smoother. It would take me a little bit to figure out that the perspective had changed.

Overall, I enjoyed Blood Will Tell and as I'm sure you all know an ending that I don't see coming is always something I love! I recommend this one for sure. If you can deal with a couple of minor issues in the beginning, it's well worth the read!

Somebody's Daughter By: David Bell ARC Mini Review

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a free ebook copy of Somebody's Daughter By: David Bell in exchange for an honest review.

It's thrillers like Somebody's Daughter that are the reason I have so many trust issues. Whew, so many of the characters in this book are hiding secrets! I really didn't like any of the characters (in a good way), except Michael's wife, Angela. I loved her character, but with some of the things that happened I wanted her to get a little more feisty. I won't give spoilers, but let me just say a few of the things that involved Michael and his ex-wife Erica would have made me very irritated. Then again maybe Angela doesn't read as many thrillers as I do and so she doesn't have as many trust issues? Ha!

The story is a bit of a slow burn at first, but then the pace picks up and the plot gets very INTENSE. I had to stop myself from racing through the book to get to the end. I desperately wanted to know what happened to Felicity and who her biological dad was. There are some very well done twists and turns in Somebody's Daughter. When I finally got to the end I wasn't disappointed. The ending was unexpected, even though looking back there are a few clues woven into the story. I love when that happens! That shows excellent writing skills in my opinion. Overall Somebody's Daughter is a fantastic thriller and I would recommend it for sure.
