Top Ten Tuesday- Top Ten Favorite Historical Settings
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted here at The Broke and the Bookish. The topic for this week is Top Ten Favorite Historical Settings.
This topic was actually pretty difficult for me to pick my favorites. I'm not a huge historical reader, but when I do read historical I usually reach for ones set in England. However, I do have an interest in reading more historical fiction. A lot of these settings that I've chosen are ones that I would like to read more from. Sadly, I may have only read a couple from some of these.
1. Victorian London!
2. Elizabethan (Anything in England really)
3. World War 2
4. 1920's (America)
5. Medieval (Fantasy)
6. Middle Eastern
7. Puritan Times
9. Civil War (American)
10. Japan, Ireland, Scotland, and other countries in general. Anything not set in America. I love books set in other countries, but I really do need to read more of them.
What are your favorite historical settings? Is there any time period you would like to time travel to? I would pick Victorian London for sure!

Sighs. I feel so bad everytime I remember I don't read almost nothing with historical settings.
ReplyDeleteI need to fix that soon!
Great list!
I know what you mean. I fee like I don't read a lot of historical unless it's set in Victorian times. I definitely need to read more (and different) historical novels.
DeleteGoodness yes to these!
ReplyDeleteRight?! :)
DeleteI think I read the most from futuristic books, but when I was a teen I read nothing but regency England. I think it was because of all the romance novels I read!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've read any Middle Eastern books in the last....year at least. So good for you! I need to read about more settings outside of the US and England.
I totally forgot about futuristic books for this one! Fail. Lol. I am with you, I need to read more books that are set outside the US and England. I really enjoy them, but for some reason I don't read as many as I would like.
DeleteFor me it has to be 19/20th century Britain!
ReplyDeleteOne World, Too Many Pages
Great choice!! :)
DeleteI've been reading more historical fiction and have found that I really like it. Victorian London and Middle Ages would be on my list too. :) And I've been getting into the 1930's a bit too...
ReplyDeleteAs for time travel, I think Renaissance times would be fascinating. And ancient times- to go back and see how they made the pyramids, for example. Put that question to rest! As long as I had a way to get back to the present LOL.
Oh I don't know much about 1930s that would be an interesting one I think.
DeleteOh yes! If I could time travel I would definitely have to find out how they made the pyramids. I agree with you there. I would also have to check out Victorian London of course. And I agree, only if I could come back to the present!
Ahhhh, Victorian London. It's probably my favorite place and time in all of history. The fashions were so exquisite, the culture was so fascinating, and so much HAPPENED! I also really love the steampunk era, which probably happened within the Victorian era. History is so interesting! My TTT.
ReplyDeleteGrace @ That Peculiar Fangirl
Definitely! So much did happen and it was just such a fascinating time. I like steampunk too. :)
DeleteI am not a historical fiction fan so this is hard. I don't even know what I would like historically. I'd have to think about it. But I like to think Japan would be a cool place!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've read much set in Japan, but it definitely is a fascinating place!
DeleteI love books set in other countries too! I'm so happy eastern countries and cultures are getting more popular this year :D and I think some European countries deserve more love as well... they're forgotten...
ReplyDeleteLaura @ psilovethatbook
I agree! I really love that the countries are finally getting popular.
DeleteGreat list ! I love the victorian times and all things London.. Wish there were more fantasy books about those..
ReplyDeleteThat would be cool! :D
DeleteYes to so many of these and I love WW2 settings and Civil War too!
ReplyDeleteI need to read more with civil war settings. I enjoy it, but I feel like I haven't read that many.
DeleteI love your list! I'd love to travel back to early medieval England, when Stephen and Matilda were fighting over the throne. So long as I was well away from the fighting!
ReplyDeleteCora @ Tea Party Princess
oh that would be fascinating! :)
